Pagan Wedding
North south east and west, fire and water, earth and air,
A few drops of rain fell as a gust of wind shook the trees
And the flame danced as the elements showed their presence.
Words where said from the four corners of the earth,
Some practiced, some not, and the mead was passed around,
More than once.
People smiled and laughed as vows where made,
And a few comments from the surrounding friends,
Where thrown in just for good measure.
Solemn enough but a truly happy event.
We moved inside for the evening.
There was a belly dance that nobody there will ever forget,
The music played, the booze flowed
and we danced and joked the night away.
Someone asked Phil when they were getting married properly
He said, this is a real wedding,
We’ve made promises and commitments to each other
In front of our friends and family
By all that we hold sacred
Signing a piece of paper after that would be a joke
And anyway, what’s it got to do with the State.
